The article in the link below reports on how chefs at restaurants would like more emphasis and support for locally grown, small farm produced nutritious food. Though the mega food production companies still command huge subsidies from the government, there is a movement afoot to give more help to smaller farms and agricultural businesses. Here is a quote from the article of January 24, 2009 that appeared on Yahoo News. "Many high-end chefs like Barber believe that most food in the United States is over-processed, over-subsidized and grown with no regard to the environment, making it harder for small farms to make a profit selling more natural, nutritious food."
