Hope everyone is ready for the new season. In the interest of all things getting greener, the Summer 2010 Calendar for Farmer's Markets in Hudson County has been posted. The 100 mile diet is a good thing, whether it comes from a farm within 100 miles or from your own garden within a few feet your house. Gentlemen and gentlewomen, start your (tillers, hoes, spades, rakes, etc.)

I ran across this article about who is winning the war for your child's stomach. When you consider all the screaming and yelling about healthcare and insurance in this country, I don't think you can start too young with educating your child about what they put into their mouth. Especially with emergence of a new class of obesity - children.

We had some good news last week. Michelle Obama is having a garden built on the White House Grounds. An article, "Is a Food Revolution Now in Season?", appeared in the NY Times Business section on March 22. It seems some in the large farming and agribusiness camp are getting nervous about the trend of locally grown food and cuts in subsidies for them. It's almost laughable to see someone mentioned in the article worrying that locally grown organic foods "may be too expensive". I guess they haven't taken a stroll in a supermarket lately or they would see that even non-organic, mass produced foods are expensive.
